
Nailers Acquire Tomko in Trade

Wheeling Nailers News Release
Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the proud ECHL affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins and the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, have traded for defenseman Slavomir Tomko from the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for future considerations.
This brings the total of officially announced players on Wheeling's roster to 16.
The 26 year old native of Zvolen, Slovakia played last season with the Elmira Jackals. Tomko is the second native of Slovakia on the Nailers roster joining Tomas Klempa.
Last year Tomko made his professional debut appearing in 53 games for the Jackals registering 3 goals and 10 assists. He added a couple more goals in 11 games in the playoffs.
The 6'0" tall, 200 pounder had a fine four year career at the University of Vermont playing in the powerful Hockey East conference. Tomko also was a member of the 2004 Slovakia World Junior Championship team.
Prior to his collegiate career, Tomko spent two seasons playing juniors in the USHL with Topeka and St. Louis.
The Nailers have officially announced 16 players for the upcoming 2009-2010 campaign including 7 returning players.

The Wheeling Nailers officially open the 2009-2010 campaign on October 16th at the South Carolina Stingrays. The home opener for the 18th season of professional hockey in the Friendly City is October 23rd when the Nailers host the Cincinnati Cyclones.
