2009-10 Thunder Training Camp Opens October 3

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has announced the team's training camp for the 2009-10 season will officially start Saturday, Oct. 3 at Stockton Arena.

The Thunder is scheduled to use Stockton Arena as its flagship practice site, with all practice sessions open to the media. An informal skate session, open to the public, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11 from 4:00 - 4:40 p.m. as part of "FanFest." Admission for the event is free to the general public.

The training camp roster will be broken up into two squads (Teams A & B) and specific rosters will vary for all training camp practice sessions. Those media members seeking specific players should check with the Thunder media relations department in advance for the best time to gain access to individuals as it will likely change daily. Media availability for Thunder head coach Matt Thomas will be held immediately following the conclusion of each day's session.

All media wishing to cover practice sessions must contact the Thunder media relations department at (209) 373-1500. As per club media policy, the training room and restrooms inside the team dressing room are strictly off-limits at all times. Players receiving medical treatment in training room during the access period will be available to the media following treatment

The Thunder returns to the ice for preseason play on Thursday, Oct. 8 against the Bakersfield Condors, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The 2009-10 season, the fifth-year anniversary for the team, launches on Friday, Oct. 16 at Qwest Arena against the Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. and the Thunder home opener is Friday, Oct. 23 against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.

The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
