
Nailers Acquire Rights to Big Forward

WHEELING,WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the proud AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have bolstered their lineup via a trade with the ECHL's Ontario (Cal.) Regin. The Nailers have acquired the rights to talented right wing Geoff Walker in exchange for future considerations.
Walker is 22 years old and is a 6'3" tall right-handed shooter.
Walker has played the last two seasons in the ECHL with Onatrio, California and also spent about half of last season in the AHL with the Los Angeles Kings affiliate in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island native scored 5 goals and 9 assists in 37 games with the Manchester Monarchs last year and also had 7 goals and 16 assists in 26 games with the Ontario Reign. He also participated in the Kings rookie tryout camp in September, 2009.
In his rookie season of 2008-09 he was the leading scorer on the Reign with 21 goals and 48 points in 68 games. That season also saw Walker play in the ECHL All Star Game in Reading, Penn. where he scored a 3rd period goal for the National Conference. In the postseason, Walker scored three more goals in seven playoff games.
Prior to turning pro he was a standout for the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for three seasons. He was also the leading scorer for PEI in 2007-08 with 38 goals and 90 points. He also had 30 goals with the PEI team in 2006-07 and had a total of 83 goals and 113 assists in 168 games in his three seasons there. He won CHL (Canadian Hockey League) Player of the Week honors in major juniors in late February, 2007 when he racked up 3 goals and 4 assists in 2 games.
