Mystics to Select Second in 2017 WNBA Draft

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The WNBA announced that the Washington Mystics received the second overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm. The lottery aired during halftime of the semifinal playoff game featuring the Phoenix Mercury and the Minnesota Lynx. Mystics GM and head coach Mike Thibault was the team's representative.
"This is a terrific moment for our organization," said Thibault. "We will have the ability to add an excellent player to our roster and continue the progress towards becoming an elite team. We still have a lot of work to do, but this is an important piece."
The Mystics had a 10.4% chance of winning the top overall following their 13-21 season and two-year record of 31-37. It will be the fourth time that Washington has held the second overall pick; the team selected Marissa Coleman in 2009, Alana Beard in 2004 and Tausha Mills in 2000.
