Augusta GreenJackets News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets (23-26) were defeated by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (24-25) on Thursday night by a score of 13-6.

Augusta found themselves behind early for the second straight night as the Pelicans plated three runs in the first on an RBI double by Ezequiel Pagan and a pair of run-scoring groundouts to make it 3-0 Myrtle Beach after an inning.

But then the GreenJackets got their bats going in the second with Ethan Workinger getting it started with a two-run homer to left for his first home run as a GreenJacket to cut the deficit to 3-2. They'd tie the game a few batters later as Keshawn Ogans doubled home Stephen Paolini from first to square the game up at three.

The offense would continue their run into the third as they took their first lead on a two-run double by Mahki Backstrom to give Augusta a 5-3 edge.

The Pelicans got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Ezequiel Pagan to make it a 5-4 game in favor of Augusta.

The score stayed 5-4 until the sixth inning when Myrtle Beach put together a four-run inning that featured a sacrifice fly from Liam Spence, a two-run double by Parker Chavers, and an RBI double by Ezequiel Pagan to give the Pelicans the lead back at 8-5.

Two more runs came in for Myrtle Beach in the seventh on a wild pitch and a homer by Ethan Hearn to put Augusta in their largest hole at 10-5.

Three more runs were added to the score column by the Pelicans in the eighth to push the advantage to 13-5.

The GreenJackets scored one in the ninth as Keshawn Ogans touched home on a wild pitch, but it wasn't enough as Myrtle Beach took game two of the series 13-6.

Johzan Oquendo (3-2) earned the win in relief for the Pelicans with William Silva (0-1) taking the loss in his debut appearance for the GreenJackets.

Ethan Workinger led the Augusta offense on Wednesday night with two more hits that included his first home run as a GreenJacket in the second. Keshawn Ogans produced two hits with an RBI and a run scored while Mahki Backstrom scored two with a long double in the third.

Augusta looks to retake command of the series on Thursday as they send Sam Strickland to the mound to face Koen Moreno for Myrtle Beach with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. from Pelicans Ballpark.
