Lexington County Blowfish News Release

Lexington County, S.C. (July 26, 2015) -- A late two-run surge by the Martinsville Mustangs vaulted them into the lead, as they defeated the Lexington County Blowfish 7-6 on Sunday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

On "Ice Cream Sunday," the Blowfish put the cherry on top of fantastic first inning. J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) slugged his ninth home run of the season, and Tyler Lancaster (Spartanburg Methodist) remained red hot, mashing a double that plated Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University) to take a 3-0 lead.

Crowe now has 25 extra-base hits on the season. He stands three hits away from tying the mark of 64 total hits he had with Columbia a season ago.

Martinsville would take advantage of two extended frames to take two separate leads. The second one would eventually stick. Jonathan Pryor, who knocked home four runs on the night, tied the game at six with a single. One batter later, Dorian Hairston reached on an error, and brought home the game-winning run, both in the seventh inning.

The Blowfish rallied back down two runs thanks to Lancaster's continually scintillating bat. He crushed a double into the left center field gap in the sixth inning, scoring Edgeworth and Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida). Derek Olenchuk's (Newberry) RBI single would give the Blowfish a momentary lead before it slipped away.

Lancaster would also single during his 3-for-4 night at the plate.

For the second straight night, Michael Gilroy (Winthrop) got the call to the mound, and he effectively gave the Blowfish a chance to win late. Down one run, he erased a two-on, nobody-out situation by retiring three straight batters. He would repeat the feat in the ninth inning, but this time, he would accomplish the feat with both runners in scoring position.

Pryor proved difficult to stop, as he finished the night 2-for-5, knocking in four runs. His three-run home run completed a five-run frame for the Mustangs, taking them from down one to up two.

Mustangs relievers Reed Shuttle and Cooper Jones pitched marvelously in relief. Shuttle struck out four batters across two innings, moving his ERA to 0.96 in 15 appearances. Jones picked up his sixth save of the season, allowing the tying run to reach base, but never allowing them past second base.

Up next, the Blowfish will once again take on the Florence RedWolves Monday, but this time on the road. Join all of the live action with the broadcast on Z93.1 FM The Lake starting at 6:50 for the 7:05 p.m. start.

The final Dog Day Tuesday of the 2015 season, presented by the MetLife Premier Client Group of the Carolinas will be this upcoming Tuesday when the Blowfish will host the RedWolves. Fans can bring their dog, on a leash, to the ballpark to enjoy a night out with the entire family. Secure your spot by calling the box office at 803-254-3474, online at blowfishbaseball.com or at Blowfish on Main (101 East Main Street in Lexington, S.C.).
