FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Mighty Mussels' bullpen twirled 5.2 scoreless innings in a 3-1 win over the Bradenton Marauders at Hammond Stadium Saturday.
Starter Miguelangel Boades was solid, limiting Bradenton (61-45, 26-15) to just one run over his 3.1 innings of work. Relievers Danny Moreno, Juan Mendez, and Ricardo Velez did the rest, allowing just two hits and two walks to seal the victory. In the process, Velez collected his third save with the Mussels (51-56, 17-24).
With no score in the bottom of the first, Jay Harry and Ricardo Olivar singled to place runners at first and second. With one out, Danny De Andrade roped a double to left center that brought home Harry to give the Mussels a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Maddux Houghton reached on an error and advanced to second after looping a fly ball to right. After stealing third base, Alec Sayre hooked a single into left that scored Houghton to extend the lead to 2-0.
Still leading by two in the bottom of the third, Luke Keaschall walked, stole second and advanced to third on an error. With one down, De Andrade sent a sacrifice fly to center that brought home the Mussels' third run of the night.
In the top of the fourth, Sergio Campana walked and stole second. With two down in the inning, Omar Alfonzo served a soft liner to left to bring in Campana and to cap scoring at 3-1.
The Mussels will start John Klein (0-2, 2.70) against Major-League rehabber Max Kranick for the Marauders on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. with coverage beginning at 11:45 a.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
