Sioux City Musketeers News Release
The Musketeers hosted just over 350 students from Sergeant Bluff School 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes as a reward for reaching their goals in the Accelerated Readers program. Students had to reach their reading goals for the quarter in order to attend the event.
Executive Vice President Rich Zaber introduced Associate Head Coach Mark Abalan who spoke about the importance of setting goals and striving to achieve them in order to be successful in life, noting that every player on the Musketeers team had worked exceptionally hard to excel not only in hockey, but in school as well. Well over 90% of Musketeer players move on to the collegiate ranks of hockey where academics are even more demanding, and success is harder to achieve, but is possible through dedication and striving to achieve goals.
The Sergeant Bluff Students watched the Musketeers practice for a while before listening to Associate Head Coach Abalan. After that they went on tours of the Musketeers locker room while the team was on the ice. They capped off their tours at ice level behind the east goal where Musketeer players were shooting on goaltenders Cam Gornet and David Fessenden. Errant shots rang off the glass, startling students who were quick to turn to each other and laugh, and then turn right back to watching practice.
