Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA | The Musketeers were back at the Tyson Events Center for the final home game of the regular season, and it may not be the last time the Musketeers step on the ice this season. With a resounding 4-2 victory over the Tri-City Storm, one of the best teams in league history, the Musketeers are headed back to the Clark Cup Playoffs.

The Musketeers carried a lot of momentum in this game with a huge 6-3 victory over the Black Hawks in Waterloo on Tuesday night. The Musketeers seem to have found the formula that made them one of the most dominant teams in the league during the first half of the season. Tonight was another impressive win for a team that has shown incredible resilience all year long.

It certainly wasn't an easy game for either team, and that was on full display in the 1st period. Both sides did an excellent job of limiting chances with Sioux city getting five shots on net and Tri-City just two.

That score wouldn't last in the 2nd period and once again it was Bobby Brink opening the scoring for Sioux City. Brink broke through two defenders and collected the puck while spinning around just inside the blueline. He got facing towards the goal at just the right time to put on between the pads of Jake Barczewski to give the Musketeers a 1-0 lead. Martin Pospisil and Marcus Kallionkieli had assists on the play. Just four minutes later it would be the newcomer Noah Tussey grabbing his first USHL goal in his first USHL game. Tussey battle for a puck in front of the net and managed to sneak it through Barczewski to give the Musketeers a 2-0 lead. Dominic Vidoli and Josh Boyer had the assists on the play.

Tri-City would get respond right away with a goal just 11 seconds later but it Sioux City would regain the lead with a minute left in the period.

Bobby Brink made an excellent dish across the slot to a wide-open Tussey who fired home his second goal of the game to give Sioux City a 3-1 lead after two periods of action. Martin Pospisil had the other assist on the play.

Things got interesting late in the 3rd period when Chase McLane brought the Storm within one with just under two minutes to play. That's as close as the Musketeers would let this one get.

Marcus Kallionkieli fired a full ice shot into the empty net at the 18:47 mark of the 3rd period to seal the win for Sioux City.

The Musketeers even decided to hang around on the ice until the Des Moines officially took down the Lancers, clinching the final Clark Cup Playoffs spot for your Sioux City Musketeers.

Ben Kraws continued his string of solid play with 17 saves on 19 shots while Barczewski made 17 of 20 stops for the Storm.

The Musketeers now have two games remaining in the regular season at Sioux Falls and at Tri-City before the playoffs. The first round will be a best of three series against the number 3 team in the west, and all three games will be on the road.

It certainly is an amazing moment for Musketeer fans who have watched this team battle unbelievable adversity all year long to reach this point. Just two years ago the Musketeers were within one shot of claiming their 4th championship in franchise history. Now the Musketeers are back in the postseason, and this time they are back for more.
