Muskegon Wins Third Straight, Second of Weekend 3-0 over Green Bay

April 6, 2019 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

The Lumberjacks stayed patient as the game remained scoreless through two periods, then converted a power play into the game's first goal 7:04 into the third period on their way to a 3-0 win over Green Bay in front of 3,403 fans at the Resch Center.

The win is Muskegon's third straight and completed a 2-0 road trip to the state of Wisconsin, including a 4-3 overtime win over Madison Friday night.

The Lumberjacks, who clinched the top spot in the East with Friday's win, have 84 points with two games to play in the regular season. They travel to the east side of Michigan to take on the Team USA U17s Thursday at 7 p.m. before returning home for the season finale against rival Chicago Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

Muskegon goalie Ryan McInchak earned the game's No. 1 star with a 27-save shutout.

The Lumberjacks amassed 37 shots on goal, but none beat Green Bay goalie Maksim Zhukov until Egor Afanasyev connected on the power play seven minutes into the third period for his 25th goal of the season. Jagger Joshua and Ryan Savage helped set it up.

Over eight minutes later the Lumberjacks connected again for some insurance, this time 5-on-5. Oliver MacDonald tallied on an odd-man rush with a little help from Nic Belpedio and Alex Gaffney.

Bobby Lynch put the game away with an empty-net goal with 30 seconds left.

Muskegon's penalty kill has been on fire lately, and that trend continued Saturday. It killed off all three Green Bay power plays.

The Lumberjacks finished 1-for-6 on their power play.
