Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

Muskegon, Michigan. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks Charitable Foundation, in concert with the Muskegon Lumberjacks Hockey Club, is pleased to introduce a new educational initiative focused on reinforcing the importance of reading, mathematics and fitness as fundamentals to achieve excellence in school, and in life.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks Educational Challenge is designed to engage and come alongside Muskegon County K-5 Students and Educators by integrating the Muskegon Lumberjacks NCAA Division 1 Bound Student-Athletes with passionate, committed teachers and school administrators. John Vanbiesbrouck, Lumberjacks General Manger and Director of Hockey Operations shares, "We have student-athletes that live and attend school in Muskegon County for an average of two-years and up to four years in some cases. Upon completing their USHL Careers, they will attend many of our nation's top-universities, including Notre Dame, Michigan, Cornell and Yale among others. Our players are fortunate to have a platform to help influence the youth in a positive way. It is a privilege to come alongside local educators and support their efforts to help children succeed in a global economy."

The Muskegon Lumberjacks Educational Challenge provides three focus areas, Fitness, Mathematics and Reading (Lumberjacks "Educational Hat-Trick"), that will be strengthened in-school by the active engagement of Lumber- jacks players, coaches, staff and Mascot ("Jack") in and with Muskegon County Schools.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks are planning visits to Muskegon County Schools in which Lumberjacks Players and Staff will be on site reinforcing the "Jacks Educational Hat-Trick" with fun and interactive challenges, games and prizes for students and educators alike. Educators interested in being a "Lumberjacks Educational School Partner" or simply learning more about the Muskegon Educational Challenge are encouraged to reach out to Katie Murphy @ 231-724-5225 x 255 or kmurphy@muskegonlumberjacks.com

The Muskegon Lumberjacks Charitable Foundation strives to enrich the West Michigan community by actively creating and supporting education, recreational and social programs that encourage the healthy development of youth and families through an association with hockey and the Muskegon Lum- berjacks.
