Sioux City Musketeers News Release

Dubuque, Iowa - The Musketeers were held scoreless by Dubuque goaltender Christian Frey in their second game of the 2013-14 regular season. Frey stopped all 20 Musketeer shots that he faced in front of a crowd of 2455 at Mystique Ice Center for the Fighting Saints home opener.

The two teams skated to a 0-0 tie in the first period after exchanging several big scoring chances. The Musketeers were unable to capitalize on the lone power play opportunity for either team in the period. Cedric Lacroix was challenged by Dubuque's Ryan Chiasson after Lacroix delivered a huge hit to the Saint's Jarrid Privitera. Lacroix and Chiasson were both given 5 minute majors for fighting. Lacroix was ejected for removing his opponent's helmet during the exchange. The Saints edged Sioux City 7-6 in shots after 1 period of play.

Shane Eiserman (Max McHugh) got the Saints on the board first at the 7:38 mark of the second period. Jacob Benson (Keegan Ford) made it 2-0 Dubuque at the 9:43 mark. Both teams exchanged big scoring chances again, but the Saints would convert on simple plays that put the puck in front of the net for crashing forwards to capitalize on. The Musketeers matched Dubuque in shots on the period with 8.

Dubuque came out flying in the third period. Shane Kavanaugh (Jordan Klimek) wasted little time making it 3-0 at the 1:28 mark of the second period. Robby Darrar (Shane Kavanaugh) put Dubuque's 4th goal of the game away at 5:19. Jake Montgomery went toe to toe with Kavenaugh on the ensuing faceoff, trying to fire his teammates up but the Saints continued to storm the Musketeers netminder, launching 15 shots to the Musketeers 5. Sioux City goaltender Connor Girard held off the surging Saints for the remaining 14 minutes of the third, thwarting numerous scoring chances launched by the defending Clark Cup champions.

Trevor Olson (lower body) and Terrance Amorosa (upper body) remained out of the lineup again with injuries. Joe Snively was cleared to play after sitting out in Fargo last week with an upper body injury.

The Musketeers return to action on the road again next Friday night when they travel to Tri-City on October 4th. Saturday night October 5th the Musketeers open their 2013-14 home schedule when they host the Sioux Falls Stampede. Game time for both contests is 7:05pm. The first 2500 fans in the doors will receive a free 2013-14 Musketeers Magnetic schedule. The Musketeers will introduce the 2013-14 team, and will also honor Bill Danderand, who served as the team's equipment manager for 40 years. Danderand passed away on Thursday evening, September 26th after a long battle with lung cancer.
