Comeback Effort Falls Short as Jacks Chop Ice in OT, 3-2

September 28, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

The Indiana Ice nearly dug themselves out of a two-goal hole against the Muskegon Lumberjacks only to fall to the hosts 3-2 in overtime from L.C. Walker Arena.

Dwyer Tschantz and Scott Conway both recorded tallies to knot the contest while Austin Kosack added a pair of assist in the effort. Jason Pawloski faced the lion's share of 29 shots on net, splitting time with teammate Samu Perhonen.

Muskegon built a 2-0 lead midway through the first period, despite facing a 14-5 shot deficit. C.J. Smith and Connor Hurley were credited with the goals.

Indy's offensive picked up steam in the second period, peppering Lumberjacks' netminder Eric Schierhorn a league-high 18 shots in the middle frame. Tschantz added his second goal of the season just inside the nine-minute mark to draw the Ice within a single goal.

Needing a goal in the worst way, Conway answered the call almost four minutes into the third period, taking another feed from Kosack and lighting the lamp to tie the contest early in the third period.

Fighting for a win in their home opener, Muskegon needed only 71 seconds to bury the heartbreaker and end the opportunity at the Ice's first win of the 2013-2014 season. Granger, IN-native Scott Pooley scored the final goal of the contest.

Indy continues their three-game road stretch next Friday and Saturday as they faceoff with Team USA U17 from Ann Arbor at 7:00 pm both nights. Hockey returns to the friendly confines of Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, October 12 against the Youngstown Phantoms. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 pm.
