Murphy Named UIF Player of the Week

United Indoor Football announced yesterday that Storm defensive end Leif Murphy has been recognized as Defensive Player of the Week. Murphy and the Storm defeated Sioux City 50-25 during Week 12 action at the Sioux Falls Arena. The win moved the Storm's record to 10-0 on the season.

Murphy compiled 6.5 tackles with three of those tackles for loss. Murphy also accounted for one sack and a fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown. Murphy currently leads the UIF in sacks with 10.5. The North Dakota State alum is also second on the team in tackles with 44.5. Murphy and the Storm defense lead the UIF in numerous categories including points allowed per game (25.9 ppg), yards allowed per game (181.2 ypg), and turnover margin (+13).

Murphy was an All-UIF selection in both 2005 and 2006 as a member of the Omaha Beef defensive front. In 2005, Murphy tallied 48.5 tackles and finished third in the league with 10 sacks. Murphy continued to contribute in 2006 as he accounted for 43.5 tackles and led the team again in sacks with 9.5. Murphy spent 2004 as a member of the Tri-City Diesel and was named the NIFL's Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Murphy had 56 tackles and 14 sacks in leading the Diesel to an 11-4 record. Murphy's first season of professional football was in 2003 when he played for the Ottawa Renegades of the CFL and then the Bismarck Roughriders of the NIFL.

The Storm will host the Ohio Valley Greyhounds this Saturday at 7:05 PM. This will be the Greyhounds first visit to the "Storm Shelter" in their seven years of existence. The game theme will be "Guys Night Out" and is presented by Billion Toyota.
