BAKERSFIELD, CA – Bakersfield Blitz WR/DB Nathan Munson (Upper Iowa, ’05) has been named U.S. Army Ironman of the Week for his outstanding performance in Week 16 against the Everett Hawks.

Offensively, Munson ran the ball 8 times for 21 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also caught 5 passes for 53 yards. He also threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to WR Shack Okoebor (Idaho State, ’06) late in the second quarter.

On special teams, Munson had 3 kickoff returns for 91 yards. In total, the veteran racked up 166 all-purpose yards during Saturday night’s game. On defense, Munson collected 4 tackles and grabbed his 12th interception of the season, and set a new franchise record for interceptions in one season. The previous record, 11, was set by DB Alex Wallace (San Jose State, ’01) in 2006. Wallace was named the 2006 ADT Defensive Player of the Year and spent the 2007 season with the AFL’s New Orleans Voo Doo and Tampa Bay Storm.

“Nathan is a true professional and I speak for the entire Bakersfield Blitz organization when I say that we are so proud of his accomplishment. This award is a testament to the hard work he puts in day in and day out, both on and off the field,” said Blitz President/General Manager Andrew Watkins.

Munson was a finalist for the U.S. Army Ironman of the Week award twice before this season, in Week 1 against Laredo and again in Week 7 after his performance against the Spokane Shock.
