Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, Ohio - For the second straight week, Mahoning Valley Thunder WR Chris Johnson has earned League honors, this time capturing the Schutt Offensive Player of the Week award, the arenafootball2 League Office announced today.

In a Week 16, overtime victory over the divisional rival Albany Conquest, Johnson re-wrote the Thunder record books. He recorded game, season and franchise-bests with 16 receptions, 238 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He accounted for seven of the Thunder's nine touchdowns on the day.

"CJ" surpassed each record in grand fashion. The previous record for receptions was 13, done twice, most recently by WR Kenneth Johnson and WR Chris Archie on April 28 at Manchester. "CJ" replaced himself in the record book, surpassing the previous high of four receiving touchdowns - a record he himself set in Week 15 over Louisville. WR DeMarcus Mathes previously held the single-game high for receiving yards with 155 on April 21 versus Cincinnati and "CJ" surpassed that by 83 yards last week.

The league award marks the third week this season in which a Thunder player has received such accolades. Archie and "CJ" each won the Cutters Catch of the Week in Week 1 and Week 15, respectively.
