ST. LUCIE, FL - Despite building a 2-0 first inning lead, the Clearwater Threshers dropped the second game of a six-game series 9-3 to the St. Lucie Mets on Wednesday night at Clover Park.
The Threshers (0-5) opened an early lead on the heels of an RBI double by Odubel Herrera (MLB Rehab assignment) and RBI single from Jadiel Sanchez to grab a 2-0 advantage in the first. Sanchez finished the game 3-for-5, while shortstop Hao You Lee also registered a multi-hit game with an RBI base knock in the third.
Right-hander Micha Ottenbreit made his first start of the season for Clearwater, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out one in three innings of work.
The Mets (4-1) responded immediately with three runs in the home half of the first and built their lead to 7-3 at the end of five innings to cruise to a second straight victory.
Clearwater will look for its first win of the season in game three of the six-game set on Thursday night. LHP Gabriel Cotto is set to take the mound for the Threshers with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
