Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs won their fourth consecutive home game with a tightly contested 2-1 victory over Corpus Christi on Tuesday night at CenturyTel Center .
Brett Smith set up Chris Brassard for the game-winning goal only 22 seconds into the second period, and Bossier-Shreveport held on to win for the fifth time this year.
It didn't take long for the scoring to start in this one. With Joe Ori off for goaltender interference early in the first period, the Rayz capitalized on the ensuing powerplay. Kevin Watters put home the rebound of a shot from the point and Corpus Christi led 1-0 only 2:43 into the game.
The Mudbugs would quickly come back to tie though, as their hottest line came through again. Daniel Pegoraro and Joe Ori were working the puck along the boards in the Rayz' zone when Ori gained control, skated around the net and backhanded a pass out front for Tyrel Lucas. Lucas one-timed the puck past Jason Tapp to tie the game at one with his fourth goal of the season. The first period would end in a 1-1 tie.
The Mudbugs wasted no time in taking the lead for good in the second period. Only 22 seconds in, Brett Smith beat all the Corpus Christi defenders into the corner after a Quade Lightbody dump-in and centered a pass for Chris Brassard. Brassard had subsequently beaten everyone to the front of the net and buried the pass to give Bossier-Shreveport the lead. Later in the period, the Mudbugs nearly made the game 3-1. After being hauled down from behind on a breakaway, Daniel Pegoraro was awarded a penalty shot. Pegoraro faked the forehand and tried to backhand a shot past Tapp, who made a great glove save to keep it a one-goal game.
Corpus Christi took over the momentum of the game for most of the third period, but was unable to solve John DeCaro to tie the game up. Despite outshooting the Mudbugs 8-4 and carrying the play, the Rayz never could get the equalizer and fell to 2-9-1 on the season, while Bossier-Shreveport advanced to 5-6-1.
Shots on goal were tied at 24 for the game, and the Mudbugs finished 0-for-2 on the powerplay, while Corpus Christi was 1-for-3.
Now the Mudbugs will head off to Youngstown for a two-game set with the SteelHounds. Coming up on Friday, the 'Hounds will play their home opener after running through a CHL-record 14 road trip with a record of 12-1-1. Friday night at the Chevrolet Center , the Mudbugs will try to spoil the party as Youngstown plays its first home game, followed by another matchup between the teams on Saturday night. Both games will start at 6:05 central time and can be heard on AM 1130 KWKH.
