Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
3/23 5-2 win at Tulsa
Joe Ori and Chris Abbott each scored twice as the Mudbugs closed out their season series with Tulsa with a 5-2 win. The Mudbugs power play was red-hot, scoring on four of eight chances. Ken Carroll was solid in net stopping 31 of 33 shots on goal.
3/24 2-0 win at Memphis
The Mudbugs shut out Memphis for the first time this season as John DeCaro notched his second Mudbug shut out and third of his career. The RiverKings were blanked on eight power play opportunities. Karlis Zirnis and Kyle Musselman scored the only goals in the defensive battle.
3/25 6-4 win vs. Youngstown
Bossier-Shreveport secured home ice advantage through the playoffs and the first Governor's Cup in franchise history awarded for the best record in the regular season. Six different Mudbugs scored as the Bugs unleashed five first period goals against the SteelHounds, shooting 40% on the game. Chris Brassard skated in his 500th game as a professional.
MUDBUGS STARS OF THE WEEK
JOHN DECARO - Played his way to his third professional shut out against the 4th best offensive team in the league.
KARLIS ZIRNIS - Scored six points in three games, two of his goals were game-winning goals.
JOE ORI - Reached the twenty goal mark and scored six points in the final week of the regular season.
IT'S PLAYOFF TIME!
The second season begins this weekend as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will face the Wichita Thunder in the first round. The Mudbugs have lost to the Thunder only once in franchise history, having faced them three times in total.
WINNING WAYS
It's been a banner season in a number of ways for the Mudbugs. The team locked up the Northeast Division title last Tuesday, it's the sixth time in franchise history the Mudbugs have won their division. The Mudbugs also set a new franchise record, finishing the season with a winning percentage of .734, the highest in team history!
