Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BEATING THE KINGS – For the second consecutive game, the Mudbugs scored in the opening minute against the Memphis RiverKings and defeated their division rivals 5-2 on Thursday night at the CenturyTel Center. The win was the Mudbugs' 300th in 495 games in franchise history. It was Shane Palahicky that jumped on a rebound just 45 seconds into the game to beat Memphis goaltender Jean-Francois Racine and give the Mudbugs a 1-0 lead. Then with 48 seconds remaining in the first period, David Oliver crashed the RiverKings crease and deflected a Scott Sheppard shot in for his second goal of the year to give the Mudbugs a 2-0 advantage. Memphis would answer with two goals early in the second period, but the Mudbugs responded with a goal from Forbes MacPherson, his team-leading fifth on the power play and eighth overall. In the third period, Sheppard added more insurance with his 11th goal of the year and MacPherson tallied an empty-netter.

FIGHTING OFF FORT WORTH – In their sixth game of the season against Fort Worth and a head-to-head showdown for first place in the Northeast Division, the Mudbugs defeated the Brahmas for the fifth time this season 3-2 on Sunday evening at the CenturyTel Center. The win was the Mudbugs' fifth in a row and gives them a two-point lead in the division with a 15-7-3 overall record. Fort Worth came out strong in the first period with 11 shots in the first twenty minutes and an opening goal from Jan Jas at 9:32 to claim a 1-0 lead. But the Mudbugs would answer as Ryan Manitowich scored a beautiful power play goal at 14:15 for his ninth goal of the season and fourth against Fort Worth. Then with just 13 seconds remaining in the first period, Dan Wildfong took a Brett Smith pass and wristed a shot past Murphy from the slot for a late 2-1 Mudbugs lead. In the second period, Scott Sheppard circled around the Brahmas zone and stuffed the puck past Murphy for his 12th goal of the season at 13:56 to give the Mudbugs a 3-1 lead. Brian Bansner would score for the Brahmas two minutes later, but that would conclude the evening's scoring. Ken Carroll made six saves in the third period and 24 total for his tenth win of the year and the Mudbugs held on for the 3-2 victory.
