LAREDO, Texas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks beat the Corpus Christi Rayz 3-1 in front of 7,284 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks shook off the rust of a seven day layoff and got a tremendous effort in net by goalie Jeremy Symington to pick up their eighth straight win and move into a first place tie in the Southeast division with Corpus Christi at 14-9-1 with 29 points. The Bucks have a game in hand on the Rayz. Laredo is on the road this Tuesday night at Rio Grande Valley against the Killer Bees. The Bucks return home to the LEC on New Years Eve against the Killer Bees. Face off is set for 7:30 p.m. For Laredo Bucks season or single game tickets call (956)-718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com and buy tickets online.

In the second first place showdown between the teams in a little over a week no one was able to score in the first period. The Rayz out shot the Bucks 9-8 in the frame.

Corpus Christi struck in the second period as they worked on a five on three power play advantage. Defenseman Mark Jackson gunned a shot from the point that was stopped, but forward Greg Bullock was there to backhand home the rebound for a 1-0 Rayz lead at 10:10. With the Rayz still on the power play the Bucks found a way to answer. Defenseman Dion Hyman moved the puck down the left wing into the zone. Hyman then centered to cutting forward Scott Kelman who unleashed a spin around backhander that found the back of the net to tie the game at 11:13. It was the seventh goal of the year for Kelman and extended his point streak to a season high eight straight games. The Rayz worked on five power play chances in the period, including two separate five on three man advantages. Symington was tremendous stopping 21 of 22 shots to keep Laredo in the game.

The Bucks broke the deadlock just 2:49 into the third period. Forward Igor Agarunov cut down the right wing and backhanded a shot by Rayz goalie Brent Zelenewich high glove side to give the Bucks a 2-1 lead. It was the seventh of the year for Agarunov. The Bucks then had several power play chances to put the game away, but the Rayz were solid on the penalty kill. Finally late in the game the Bucks managed to finish off the Rayz as forward Adam Paiement took a terrific pass from Kelman and slammed it into the net at 18:29 for a power play goal to complete the scoring. It was the twelfth of the year for Paiement and extended his point steak to a career high nine straight. FINAL SCORE Laredo 3, Corpus Christi 1.

Symington was brilliant stopping 37 of 38 to pick up his eighth straight win and improve to 10-3-0. During the stretch Symington has stopped 227 of 238 shots for a save percentage of .954. Zelenewich took the loss allowing two goals on 24 shots in 49:59 of work to drop to 7-6-3. Josh Blackburn finished off in net for the Rayz allowing one goal on five shots in 10:01. The Bucks were 1-7 on the power play while Corpus Christi was 1-9.
