Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BUGS BATTLE BACK VS. INDY – Ryan Manitowich continued his impressive play at the CenturyTel Center and David Oliver picked a good time to score his first goal of the season as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs fought back from a late 1-0 deficit to defeat the Indianapolis Ice, 2-1 on Tuesday night. After a scoreless first period, Jared Dumba chipped a loose puck off of Ken Carroll and into the back of the Mudbugs' net at 4:41 of the second period for his fourth goal of the season. The Mudbugs, despite numerous scoring opportunities, couldn't crack Ice goaltender Brent Zelenewich with 21 shots through two periods. At 9:51 of the third, Ryan Manitowich scored his fourth goal of the season with a neat move off the boards and a sharp wrist shot from the right circle. Nearly two minutes later, David Oliver scored the game-winner on a scramble around the Indianapolis crease after a Jason Basile wrist shot from the blue line.

MUDBUGS FIGHT OFF TULSA – On Friday night, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs earned a 4-3 shootout win over the Tulsa Oilers, despite a late rally by Tulsa to tie the game at the CenturyTel Center. With the win, the Mudbugs improved to 6-3-1 on the season and Ken Carroll recorded his 58th win as a Mudbug, the most for any goaltender in franchise history. David Oliver opened the scoring in the first period by deflecting a Chris Brassard one-timer on the power play for his second goal of the season. Oliver struck again in the second period by crashing the net and chipping a Trevor Buchanan pass over the arm of Tulsa goaltender Rod Branch for his second of the night. In a wild third period, the Mudbugs built a 3-1 lead against Tulsa, but the Oilers got goals from Shawn Scanzano and Jason Bermingham in the final 1:16 of regulation to even the score. In overtime, the Mudbugs were stoned by Branch during a two-man advantage and were forced into a shootout. After seven shootout rounds, Jason Campbell scored the game-winning goal for a 4-3 win.

CORPUS FALLS AS BUGS WIN FIFTH IN A ROW – On Saturday night, the Mudbugs won their fifth game in a row as they defeated the Corpus Christi Rayz 4-2, in front of 5,372 fans at the CenturyTel Center. Five minutes into the contest, Chris Brassard took a Craig Soke pass in on goal and beat Rayz goaltender Brent Belecki with a backhander to open the scoring. Corpus Christi's Ed McGrane tied the game just one minute later, but Brassard answered with his second goal of the night at 6:23 of the second period. In the third period, Chad Spurr notched his third point of the game with a breakaway goal, assisted by Brassard, to give the Mudbugs a two-goal lead. Rayz veteran Brad Wingfield scored a power play tally in the third, but Colin Kendall answered it with his first professional goal at 12:11 to give the Mudbugs the 4-2 win. Ken Carroll made 30 saves to earn his seventh win of the year.
