John, Grobins Earn CHL Awards

A pair of Northeast Division foes born within two days of each other has been recognized as the Central Hockey League's Bauer/Nike Player of the Week and Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for Week Five of the CHL season. Indianapolis Ice All-Star defenseman Bernie John scored nine points in three games to earn CHL Player of the Week honors, while Memphis RiverKings netminder Nathan Grobins turned in two outstanding performances while being selected as the CHL's Goaltender of the Week.

After being held scoreless in a 2-1 defeat at Bossier-Shreveport November 11th, John turned in two dominating offensive efforts in a two-game home and home sweep of the Wichita Thunder. In Wichita on November 14th, he scored a power play goal and added three assists in a 7-3 Indianapolis win, then scored twice and added three assists in a 9-4 victory on home ice the following evening. All three of John's goals came on the power play, and his week made him the Ice career franchise leader with 298 points.

Grobins had a pair of tremendous road outings for the RiverKings as Memphis rattled off four consecutive wins in the past week. On November 14th in Oklahoma City, he allowed a single goal against while making 50 saves in a 4-1 win. Two days later in Corpus Christi, he again only allowed a single goal against, this time making 38 saves in a 3-1 victory. Grobins improved his record to 5-2-0 for the two-time defending champions.
