Mudbugs Sign Two Alberta Natives

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have today announced the signing of two forwards for the upcoming season, Ryan Manitowich and newcomer Lyle Steenbergen. Both players will join the team's training camp which begins on Monday October 11th in preparation for the October 22nd regular season opener at the CenturyTel Center.
Manitowich (man-uh-TOE-witch), 26, enters his second season in Bossier-Shreveport after scoring 13 goals and 14 assists in 56 games with the Mudbugs last year. The Calgary, Alberta native finished second on the team in rookie scoring with 27 points and fifth in the CHL in plus-minus by a rookie at +22. A graduate of Iona College (NY), Manitowich enjoyed four multi-point games last year including a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Fort Worth on November 6, 2003. He becomes the eighth player to be re-signed by the Mudbugs from last year's squad.
Lyle Steenbergen joins the Mudbugs after spending last season with the Jacksonville Barracudas of the WHA2, but is no stranger to the Central Hockey League. In 2002-2003, the 6'0 195-pound winger played in 58 games with the Tulsa Oilers and recorded 11 goals and 19 assists. Last year in Jacksonville, Steenbergen scored 27 goals in 58 games and helped lead the Barracudas to the WHA2 championship. The newest member of the Mudbugs roster hails from Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
"It's great to have Ryan back after a great rookie season and we're really excited about having Lyle here," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Both of them have established themselves at a professional level and now I look forward to working with them in the upcoming season. There's no doubt that with the forwards that we have coming, a lot of tough decisions will have to be made."
The 2004 Mudbugs Training Camp will officially begin on Monday October 11th with a 3:00 p.m. practice at the CenturyTel Center which will be open to all media members.
