Mudbugs Deliver Big Sweep Over NAHL's Top Team
April 1, 2023 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (34-15-7) lit the lamp hard and heavy on the PP to lead the way to a convincing 5-2 victory over the league's top team in the Oklahoma Warriors and a big sweep at Blazers Ice Centre Saturday night.
After a scoreless opening period, the Bugs exploded in the second period.
It all started just 45 seconds in as Drake Morse roofed in his 18th goal of the year from the slot to give the Bugs an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Burke and Jaden Goldie earned the helpers on the PP tally. Morse wouldn't stop there as 1:16 later he stashed in his second goal of the night off the faceoff win from the left point to push the lead to 2-0. Burke earned his second assist of the night on another PP goal at 2:01. SHV would add another on the man advantage as Jaden Goldie took a perfect feed from Burke right in front and smacked in his seventh tally of the campaign to make it a 3-0 contest at 4:27. Burke got the only assist on the play which was his third helper of the night. OKC got back in the game at 13:09 as William Ahlrik tipped home his second goal in this series to get on the board as it was 3-1 after two. Mudbugs led in SOG, 20-16 at this point.
The Bugs struck again early in the 3rd period at 5:58 as Nik Miller came in on a 2 on 1 odd-man rush and flipped in his eighth goal of the season from the far circle to make it a 4-1 contest. Logan Gotinsky earned the only assist on Miller's tally. OKC scored at 9:16 as Joey Delgreco spun in his 20th goal of the year to make it a 4-2 hockey game. That's the closest the league's best team would get as Brent Litched sailed in the EN goal at 17:39 to close out a 5-2 victory and a sweep over the Oklahoma Warriors.
Nikola Goich picked up his fourth win in net.
The Bugs will conclude their regular season home schedule next weekend as they'll host the Corpus Christi IceRays for a two-game series at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Game one will be next Friday night w/ puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m.
