
Mudbugs Crush the Rays

Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (2-0) played a very physical brand of hockey to out-muscle the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, 4-1 to earn the sweep at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Bugs opened up the scoring this time when Andrew Jackson put a quick wrister into the net for his first tally of the season. Jacob Skolnik and Justin Cmunt grabbed the assists at 15:59 of the 1st period. The Ice Rays rallied back with a powerplay goal at 19:52 evening up the score at 1 after one period of play.
The defending Robertson Cup Champs broke a 1-1 tie at 8:53 of the 2nd period when Jack Johnson backhanded in his first goal of the season assisted by Anton Rubstov. The Bugs led 2-1 after two periods of play.
Shreveport got a big boost from their new captain Jay Feiwell who skated in shorthanded and faked out the Ice Rays goalie along the far side to go top shelf for his first tally of the season just 33 seconds into the 3rd. The goal was unassisted and it gave the Bugs a 3-1 lead. Shreveport would get the icing on the cake at 18:43 when Ethan Harrison tapped in the EN goal concluding a 4-1 victory for the Mudbugs.
Leo Chuard gets the win in net for his second straight victory making 30 saves.
The Mudbugs will hit the road for the first time this season as they'll travel to Blaine, MN for the 2018-2019 NAHL Showcase. The Bugs will play four games in four night beginning with a Wednesday afternoon tilt against the Fairbanks IcevDogs. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:30pm from Schwan Super Rink.?
