
Chippewa Steel Top the Ice Dogs in Home Opener

Chippewa Steel began their Inaugural Season against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs with a 3-1 win in front of a sellout crowd at Chippewa Area Ice Arena.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs got on the scoreboard first in the first period at the 17:34 mark with a goal scored by Jack Johnston.
The Steel countered with their first goal in team history which was scored by Connor Szmul , assisted by Jacob Dirks and Grisha Gotovets. The Steel then took the lead with a goal scored by Austin Mikesch assisted by Dylan Moulton.
Connor Zilisch added an empty net goal at the 19:29 mark in the third period.
Owen Zdunski stopped 20 out of 21 shots and picked up the win. Nate Reid was in goal for Fairbanks stopping 25 of 28 shots. The 3 stars of the game were Jacob Dirks, Owen Zdunski, and Connor Zilisch.
The Steel return to action tomorrow night at 7:10 against the same Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Tomorrow is the first Pepsi Family Four Pack of the 2018-2019 Season. Fans can purchase 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs,4 Pepsi products and 4 bags of Chips for $45.
