Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga used some ninth-inning heroics to complete a series sweep of Lake Elsinore, winning 4-3 at LoanMart Field on Sunday night.

With the game tied 3-3, the Quakes (19-16, 60-45) rallied with two outs in the bottom of the ninth against Storm reliever Jason Jester (2-1). Tyler Ogle flared a single to right field. Brian Wolfe doubled to right-center, placing runners at second and third. Dillon Moyer singled down the right field line, scoring Ogle with the winning run and touching off a big celebration on the infield for Rancho Cucamonga's fifth consecutive victory at home.

Lake Elsinore (8-28, 39-67) nearly spoiled things in the top of the ninth against reliever A.J. Vanegas (2-0). With his club trailing 3-2, Auston Bousfield walked and advanced to second on a groundout by Nick Schulz. Nick Torres lined a single up the middle, plating Bousfield to knot the contest at 3-3.

For a second straight game, the Quakes jumped out to a first inning lead. Tim Locastro drew a leadoff walk against Storm starter Kyle Lloyd. Brandon Dixon, who had three homers in his last two outings, went deep over the left field fence for a two-run shot and his ninth home run of the season, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage.

Rancho Cucamonga added a run against Lloyd in the third. Dixon stroked a one-out double and came home on Jacob Scavuzzo's double to left-center field, providing the Quakes with a 3-0 margin.

Meanwhile, Cuban-born right-hander Pablo Fernandez dazzled in his High-A debut with Rancho Cucamonga. The 25-year-old tossed six scoreless innings, allowing four hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out six in the no-decision.

Lake Elsinore began to rally in the top of the eighth inning against Quakes' reliever Michael Johnson. Torres and Donavan Tate opened the frame with back-to-back doubles to get the Storm on the board. Fernando Perez hit a two-bagger down the right field line, scoring Tate to cut the deficit to 3-2 and set the stage for the ninth-inning drama.

With the win, Rancho Cucamonga improves to 12-0 against Lake Elsinore at LoanMart Field this season, having swept all three series of four games from the Storm. The Quakes are now 16-4 overall against the Padres' affiliate in 2015.

Rancho Cucamonga will now shift its attention to a three-game series from Monday through Wednesday against the South Division second-half leaders, the High Desert Mavericks. The Quakes enter the series one game behind the Texas Rangers' farm club for first place.

The Quakes will send right-hander Chase De Jong (1-1, 4.10 ERA) to the mound in the series opener on Monday night, while High Desert counters with right-hander Reed Garrett (4-2, 6.07 ERA).
