COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Steven Moya blasted the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th inning over the fence in right field for a home run, leading the West Michigan Whitecaps past the Great Lakes Loons Sunday afternoon, 3-2.
Moya's homer came off reliever Raydel Sanchez (1-2), and after his victorious trip around the bases, he was met with jubilant teammates at home plate.
Dan Bennett (2-2) picked up the win with 2/3 relief innings.
West Michigan took advantage of a throwing error by Loons starter Arismendy Ozoria in the first. After a single by Chad Wright, Ozoria threw an errant pickoff throw to first sending Wright to third. He scored an unearned run on a double by Moya.
The Loons tied the score at 1-1 in the fifth inning, swiping home on a successful double steal. With runners at the corners and one out, Andrew Edge struck out but Jesse Bosnik took off from first and stole second. On the throw to second, Joe Winker took off for the plate and stole home without a throw.
West Michigan went ahead 2-1 when Brandon Loy scored on a wild pitch by reliever Jose Dominguez.
But the Loons countered with a run in the top of the eighth. With two outs and a 1-2 count, Pedro Guerrero hit a line drive home run to left field to knot up the game at 2-2.
Ozoria did not allow an earned run in six innings. The right-hander surrendered four hits, one unearned run. He walked two and struck out three.
Jose Dominguez followed in relief with a run in 1 2/3 innings.
The Loons (30-33) and Whitecaps (31-32) conclude their three-game series Monday evening at 7pm ET. Righty Gustavo Gomez (4-5, 4.89 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons. Lefty Kyle Ryan (2-2, 3.79) gets the nod for the Whitecaps. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and Espn1009.com.
The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
