
Lansing Keeps on Rolling, Beat Lake County 4-1

Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI) - The Lansing Lugnuts (43-19) defeated the Lake County Captains (29-33) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1. The Captains record on Sundays falls to 2-7. The big hit in the ballgame cam in the bottom of the fifth inning with Lansing leading 2-0 and a runner on second base, Kevin Patterson hit a high drive to left field that just cleared the 20ft high wall in center field. The homer was Patterson's fifth of the season and it put Lansing out in front for good 4-0.
Lanisng scored two un-earned runs in the first inning of play. Leonardo Castillo missed a groundball hit to him on the very first hitter of the game and the next two hitters for Lansing made outs. So, with two down in the inning, Andy Burns walked and Kevin Pillar singled home Wilson to open the scoring and that was followed by a KC Hobson double and the Lugnuts led 2-0.
Lake County got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. Robel Garcia walked and was moved to third on a double by Zach MacPhee. MacPhee just missed hitting his second homer of the trip. Luigi Rodriguez lifted a fly ball to deep right field that was caught but, scampering home from third was Garcia and the score was 4-1.
In the eighth inning the Captains had the tying run to the plate with two outs. Leonardo Castillo was the hitter and the runners were on first and second. Manager David Wallace was ejected from the ballgame from umpire Fernando Rodriguez after Wallace said his peace he returned to the clubhouse. This was the third time this season that David Wallace has been ejected from a ballgame.
RHP Marcus Walden (5-1) was the starter for the Lugnuts and got the win. Walden twirled five innings and allowed six hits. He walked one and struck out six. Javier Avendando pitched three innings and allowed three hits an earned run he walked one and fanned five. Tyler Ybarra pitched the ninth and earned his second save of the season for the Lugnuts.
RHP Joe Colon (5-6) got the start and took the loss for the Captains. Colon went five innings allowing five hits, four runs and two were earned. Colon walked six and struck out two. Colon also gave up the homer to Kevin Patterson his fifth of the season. Cole Cook and Francisco Valera combined to pitch three shut out hitless innings in relief.
The Captains will be back in action Monday evening in Lansing, Michigan. On Monday, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. This is the final road game of the first half for Lake County. Lake County will send RHP Cody Anderson (4-3, 2.91) to the mound against LHP Justin Nicolino (2-0, 1.407 for Lansing.
