Moya Named July Player of the Month

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce Erie SeaWolves outfielder Steven Moya has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July. Moya hit .304 (34-for-112) with seven doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 33 RBI, 20 runs scored, three stolen bases, a .347 on-base percentage and a .652 slugging percentage in 29 games during the month. The 22-year old reached base in 23 of the 29 games he played in during the month and drove in at least one run in 17 games, including 10 games in which he drove in multiple runs. Among those performances were a pair of games in which Moya drove in four runs. The first was a 9-6, 16-inning win at Binghamton on July 4th. He matched that total in an 8-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Altoona on July 8th. The 6'6", 230 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in home runs (10), RBI (33), extra-base hits (18) and total bases (73) during the month of July. He also finished the month ranked among the league leaders in OPS (.999-2nd), slugging percentage (.652-2nd), runs scored (20-tied 7th) and hits (34-tied 9th).
Moya, who is a native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, also played for the Western Division at the 2014 UPMC Health Plan Eastern League All-Star Stop in Altoona during the month. He was named the winner of the MiLB.com Top Star Award as the MVP of the game after driving in the winning run with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning of the Western Division's 5-2 win on July 16th at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Steven, who is hitting .273 and leads the league in home runs (28), RBI (88), extra-base hits (58), slugging percentage (.553) and total bases (231) in 108 games in his Double-A debut for the Erie SeaWolves this season, was signed by the Detroit Tigers as an undrafted free agent on October 1, 2008.
