Vermont Mountaineers News Release

PLYMOUTH, Mass.- The Vermont Mountaineers and Plymouth Pilgrims split a double header on Thursday in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

With both games ending in walk-offs, the Mountaineers beat the Pilgrims 3-2 in the first game, and then Plymouth got the best of Vermont in game two, topping them 4-3.

In game one, Joe Tietjen (Waxhaw, N.C./UNC Asheville) was the hero for the Mountaineers, hitting a walk-off double in the seventh inning, driving in Trevor Ezell (Alexander, Ark./Southeast Missouri) from first.

Vermont got six excellent innings out of starter TJ Santiago (Linden, N.J./Adelphi), who allowed just one earned run on seven hits. The righty struck out six batters and didn't walk anyone.

The Mountaineers got two runs in the first inning, and then saw their offense go quiet through the middle part of the game, before it came through again in the seventh.

Will Morgan (Middletown, N.J./Old Dominion) knocked an RBI single to get the Mountaineers going in the first inning, driving in Ezell. Two batters later, Morgan came around to score himself thanks to a ground rule double by Troy Scocca (Syosset, N.Y./Fairfield).

The Pilgrims got a run in the second inning when Tyler Kirkpatrick (Eagleville, Pa./Marist) came around to score on an RBI fielder's choice by Cameron Hanley (Walpole Mass./Northeastern).

Plymouth scored again in the fourth when Hanley drove in Kirkpatrick again, that time via an RBI single.

Michael Fairchild (Olympia, Wash./Azusa Pacific) got the win for the Mountaineers after coming in in relief and pitching one inning of shutout ball, allowing no hits. Thomas Lane (Georgetown, Mass./Boston College) suffered the loss for Plymouth, moving him to 1-1 on the year.

In game two, the Mountaineers offense was quiet until the top of the seventh inning, when they scored three runs to tie the game.

Tyler Kirkpatrick came through for Plymouth once again in the bottom of the seventh, though, knocking a walk-off single to drive in Ryan Brown (Lexington, S.C./College of Charleston) and win it.

Pilgrims starter Andrew Mitchell (New Orleans/Auburn) went six and two thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Mitchell walked four and struck out five.

Vermont started Davis Feldman (Warren, Mich./Eastern Michigan), who allowed three runs on three hits over three and two thirds innings.

The Pilgrims offense got going in the bottom of the third when Chase Bushor (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Georgetown) ripped an RBI single, driving in Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Georgetown).

Plymouth struck again in the fourth with two runs thanks to an RBI double by Liam O'Reagan (Middleton, R.I./Elon) and a walk issued to Riley Delgado (Murfeesboro, Tenn./Middle Tennessee St.) with the bases loaded.

Mike Osinski (Vestal, N.Y./Longwood) got the Mountaineers started in the seventh inning with a solo home run to put them on the board. That was followed by a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif./Stony Brook) and a wild pitch that allowed Daniel Little (Nicholasville, Ky./Louisville) to score from third base.

Jake Wyrick (Cleveland, Tenn./Middle Tennessee St.) got the win for Plymouth after pitching one third of an inning and not giving up a hit or a run. Rayne Supple (Shelburne, Vt./Wake Forest) suffered the loss for the Mountaineers after throwing three innings and allowing one run on three hits. Supple walked a batter and struck out three.

The Mountaineers move to 15-18. Vermont will be in action again on Friday when they'll travel to Newport, R.I. to take on the Gulls. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM at Cardines Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports 1240 AM WSKI or online through The NECBL Broadcast Network.
