Sacramento, CA - Thursday, November 11, 2010

A group of Sacramento Mountain Lions, including running backs Cory Ross and Steve Baylark and receiver Marcus Maxwell, will pay a visit to the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Sacramento Raley Branch from 4:30-6 p.m. today.

This Boys and Girls Club is located at 1117 G Street in Sacramento.

The group of Mountain Lions will take a tour of the facility and then speak about life experiences, focusing on when they found a particular talent or interest they were good at and became great at it.

This visit is part of the "good to great" initiative at the Boys and Girls Club - it's a national program that identifies a child's interest and talent and helps them become great at it.

Rebecca Shubin, Director of the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Sacramento Raley Branch, says, "The initiative helps our kids build self confidence. We find something about each child at our center that they enjoy doing, and are good at, and help make them great at it. Developing a skill really helps these kids form a positive identity of themselves."

The Mountain Lions also participated in an event at the Raley Branch a day earlier. On Wednesday, November 10, Mountain Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper donated 100 tickets for this Saturday's game against Jeff Garcia and the Omaha Nighthawks to the center. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. at Hornet Stadium at Sacramento State. The Mountain Lions (3-4) must win on Saturday night to keep their hopes at reaching the UFL championship game alive.

"We were able to use Daunte's tickets as an extra perk for people to come to the center and get flu vaccinated," Shubin said. "The kids are really excited to have players come here to share their stories and play with the kids."
