Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 7/25/08 - Jake Morissette, a first-year pro out of British Columbia, has been officially signed by the Amarillo Gorillas for the 2008-09 season.
The winger spent the last four seasons playing collegiate hockey at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Over the course of his collegiate career he scored 17 goals and 41 points for the Big Red in 138 games.
"From all my research, Jake is a leader, a hard worker, and an excellent two-way player," said Gorillas Head Coach Tom Coolen. "He should be a very solid Central Hockey League player for us in the future."
Morissette went to high school at Williams Lake in British Columbia, scoring 43 goals in 59 games during his senior season. He was twice an assistant captain for the Timberwolves before making the cross-country move to play his college hockey on the east coast.
A three-time ECACHL All-Academic honoree, Morissette garnered a host of league and nationwide honors while at Rensselaer. He attained ECAC weekly honor roll status during his junior season; that same year, he was named to the HCA Commissioners' Choice National Player of the Month Honorable Mention list (November, 2006)
While playing Division I college hockey in the United States, Morissette continued to play the role of a team leader, as he was named the Big Red's team captain for the 2007-08 campaign.
"Typically the captains of Division I programs are good players," Coolen remarked. "I am certain he will bring that same character and style of play to Amarillo."
Morissette is the fifth Gorilla inked under Coolen's regime, joining John Hooks, Simon Nielsen, Brian Bicek, and Gordon Bell in Amarillo for 2008-09.
