Ottawa Voyageurs News Release
With the Ottawa Rapids first game of their inaugural season scheduled for one month from today, the team announces the signing of two Canadian players.
Adam Hawes, a 24-year-old Brampton native, brings to the Rapids 3 years of pro baseball experience. The 6'4" right-handed pitcher displays a 13-12 record with a 3.83 ERA since signing with the Minnesota Twins in 2004.
Sambu Ndungidi, is a 22-year-old, French-speaking outfielder from Montreal. Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002, he played with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats last year. In 108 at-bats with the Cracker-Cats, he had a .287 batting average.
" Adam Hawes right now is penciled in as a productive starter in our rotation," says Ed Nottle, the Rapids field manager. "I'm very happy to have signed him, and I believe he'll be an important part of our initial season in Ottawa. Sambu, from all reports, should be a productive offensive threat for our club this year, as both a designated hitter and outfielder. I know his work ethic is great and I'm looking forward to watching him advance in his career."
Tryouts for those with college or professional experience are being held on May 8th at the Ottawa Stadium.
