QMJHL Halifax Mooseheads

Mooseheads to Partner with LLC on Warm-Up Jerseys

November 30, 2017 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Halifax Mooseheads News Release

The Halifax Mooseheads will have a new look tomorrow night when the Herd hosts the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at the Scotiabank Centre at 7pm.

The Mooseheads are set to introduce new warm-up jerseys which will be worn for the remainder of the regular season. Fans will have a chance to win the signed jerseys with all proceeds going to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Blood cancer is the number one cancer affecting children under 14 years of age in Canada. The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Currently, there is a disparity of funding available in the research community as well as a lack of support available to blood cancer patients. As a result the LLSC is currently supporting 41 researchers across Canada with operating grants, including two in Atlantic Canada, as well as supporting over 400 Atlantic Canadian patients and their families through their patient support programs .

Joe Dipenta, Regional Director of Atlantic Canada, is a 2007 Stanley Cup Champion with the Anaheim Ducks and played for the Mooseheads on the 2000 Memorial Cup team. He has a special understanding of the impact the Mooseheads can have on the community from his time spent with the Organization.

"People ask why I got involved with this cause and I answer them that it started with my hospital visits as a player with the Mooseheads to the IWK. I met a young patient there who had leukemia. She inspired me 7 years later when I saw her fully recovered before my Stanley Cup parade, to start an event in Anaheim to support local blood cancer patients through the Children's Hospital. The experience was so rewarding that I have been involved ever since."

"We saw an opportunity where we felt we could help raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada" said Brian Urquhart, Mooseheads Vice President Business Operations. "We're looking forward to helping a great cause".

Raffle tickets on the warm up jerseys will be sold for $5 each or 3 for $10 at Fans Corner at the top of section 4 each game until the end of the season. The winners will be announced during the Mooseheads home game on Friday, March 16th vs Moncton.

The Mooseheads are on home ice against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Friday night at 7pm and will host the Val d'Dor Foreurs Saturday night at 7pm.

Tickets are on sale now at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office, select Superstore Outlets, TicketAtlantic.com, the Official Mooseheads Shop in Scotia Square or call 451-1221.
