Cape Breton Eagles News Release

NOTES FROM THE GAME

- Markus Vidicek opened the scoring at the 4:16 mark of the third period and scored an empty netter to seal a 3-1 Halifax victory over the Eagles. Olivier Houde scored a late market

- Jack Milner picked up the win, stopping 32 of 35 shots. Jakub Milota took the loss, stopping 26 of 28 in addition to the empty netter. Liam Kilfoil scored the game winning goal for Halifax.

- Prior to the game, the Eagles acquired 17 year old forward Noah Larochelle from Victoriaville in exchange for a fourth round draft pick. He is expected to join the team for the upcoming Quebec road trip in January.

Halifax carried the opening period, outshooting the Eagles 13-5, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Each side failed to score the power play.

The second stanza was played almost entirely five on five, until a penalty to Eagles captain Zach Biggar in the final minute. The middle frame belonged to the Eagles, outshooting the visitors 15-8, but once again, neither side could find the back of the net.

While the Eagles were able to kill off the penalty that carried over into the third period, but before the five minute mark Vidicek scored from the front of the net. Kilfoil's insurance marker came with under six minutes to go, giving the Eagles a big hill to climb.

Milota was lifted for an extra attacker and the final two minutes, and the move had the desired effect as Houde jammed in the Eagles lone goal from the side of the net. When the Eagles were able to gain the Halifax zone, Milota left the net again- but this time it was Vidicek finding the open goal to give Halifax a 3-1 victory.

The same two teams will play the return match- the final game of 2023- tomorrow afternoon in Halifax. Game time is 2 PM AST. The game is available for purchase on https://shorturl.at/nsGR9 and you can also hear all the action on 1270 AM CJCB or online at www.cjcbradio.com
