Moose Split Week 12 With Monsters

The Manitoba Moose closed-out their four game season series against the Lake Erie Monsters in Week 12 and earned two of a possible four points. Cory Schneider stopped all 27 shots on Friday night to shutout the Monsters 1-0. In the rematch, the Moose dropped a 3-2 decision to the Monsters to finish 2-2-0-0 against the Lake Erie club.

Friday, December 18, 2009: Manitoba 1, Lake Erie 0 The Manitoba Moose opened their weekend doubleheader with a 1-0 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters in front of 7,388 fans at MTS Centre on Friday night. Guillaume Desbiens notched Manitoba's only goal while Cory Schneider earned his second shutout of the season with 27 saves.

Saturday, December 19, 2009: Manitoba 2, Lake Erie 3 The Manitoba Moose suffered a 3-2 loss to the Lake Erie Monsters in their last meeting this regular season in front of 7,859 fans at the MTS Centre. Alexandre Bolduc and Guillaume Desbiens both potted goals while Cory Schneider stopped 29 of 31 shots in his eighth loss this campaign.

Moose Notes

LOSE-WIN ROUTINE: So far this season the Moose are 3-7-2-0 after a win and 8-5-0-0 after a loss. After winning a contest, the Moose have lost their following game 12 times this season -- most recently suffering a 3-2 loss to the Monsters after earning a 1-0 victory against the club the previous night. After 35 games this season, the club has only enjoyed a season-high three-game winning streak on home ice from November 13-20. Historically, the clubs longest winning streak runs 10 games and has occurred twice.

THOUGHTS ON SHOTS: In their last 10 games the Moose have been outshot 326-257 by their opponents. Their record in these past 10 games sits at an even 5-5-0-0. So far this season, the club has been outshot in 19 of their 35 games. When being outshot they hold a 6-10-3-0 record, but when out firing their competitor they are 10-3-1-0. The last time Manitoba won the shot clock was on December 11 at Norfolk, 32-29 (4-1W).

Upcoming Opponents

After splitting their first double-header against the Heat in October, the Moose host the new Abbotsford club for their second and last back-to-back set at MTS Centre this season (December 27-28). The clubs will then close-out their regular season series with four games out west (January 12-13; March 29-30). The Moose are 1-1-0-0 against the Heat, after dropping a 4-2 decision on October 13 followed by a 5-4 shootout victory on October 14. Sergei Shirokov leads his crew with four points (1g & 3a) against the Heat, while Jamie Lundmark has four points (3g & 1a) against the Moose.

Player of the Week Nominee

For the second time this season, Moose goaltender Cory Schneider is the nominee for AHL Player of the Week... This week, the Marblehead, Massachusetts native stopped 66 of 69 shots in a doubleheader against the Lake Erie Monsters... On Friday, December 17, 2009 Schneider stopped all 27 shots to record his second shutout this season in a 1-0 victory... He then stopped 39 of 42 shots in the rematch -- earning third star honours in the 3-2 loss... So far this season, Schneider holds a 14-8-0 record, 2.37 GAA and 0.918 save percentage...
