Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose dropped Game 1 of the North Division Semi-Final after suffering a 2-0 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday night. Mike Glumac and Ryan Russell both potted goals for Hamilton while Cory Schneider stopped 16 of 18 shots. The Moose and Bulldogs will face-off in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon at Copps Coliseum.

Chad Anderson's roughing penalty at 2:43 put the Moose on the first powerplay of the game. The visiting Manitobans were able to register one shot on their opening man-advantage, but goaltender Cedrick Desjardins denied their single attempt.

A mere 5:53 into the game, Hamilton broke onto the scoreboard. Right-winger Mike Glumac ripped the puck from the point and over Cory Schneider's left shoulder to open the scoring.

The powerplay tables turned in favor of the Bulldogs when Guillaume Desbiens was put away for goaltender interference at 10:46. Manitoba's penalty killers, who finished 14th overall in the regular season, played strong and fought off the two-minute disadvantage.

After 20 minutes of play, the Bulldogs were leading the game by a goal but the shot count was even with six attempts each.

The Moose suffered four penalties during the second frame, but they managed to escape the quartet of disadvantages unscathed. After 40 minutes of play, the Moose were still trailing by a goal but claimed the shot lead 14-13.

At 3:37 of the third period, the Bulldogs extended their lead. With a behind the net pass from Ryan White, Ryan Russell one-timed the puck into the roof of Schneider's net to take a 2-0 lead.

Back and forth play consumed the rest of the third period, and the Moose were trying hard to break their goose-egg. Unfortunately, time expired and Manitoba suffered a 2-0 loss to the Bulldogs to give the club a 1-0 series lead.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Manitoba Moose will play Game 2 of the North Division Semi-Final in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon against the Bulldogs.
