Halifax Mooseheads News Release

The Halifax Mooseheads kept pace with the Quebec Remparts atop the QMJHL standings while delivering a blow to the playoff chances of the Saint John Sea Dogs in a 4-3 victory on Friday night at TD Station.

The Herd built up a 4-1 lead and held on for the victory to improve to 47-10-4-3 and became the first team in the QMJHL to break to 100 point mark in the standings with 101. The Remparts would later match that with a victory over Victoriaville. Jordan Dumais scored his 50th goal of the season while Alex Doucet added his league leading 56th with what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Attilio Biasca and Evan Boucher also scored in the win which was the third in a row for Halifax who will wrap up the regular season with a four-game homestand beginning Sunday versus Moncton.

Brady James was between the pipes for the win and was very good with 29 saves to halt a Sea Dogs team looking to fight their way back into the postseason picture. Saint John started the night tied with Val d'Or in points for the final playoff spot in the league. The Foreurs were 5-1 losers to Drummondville but still hold the tie-breaker over the Dogs with three games remaining for both teams.

Dumais opened the scoring in the game to reach 50 goals for the first time in his career and 127 points on the season. He is 10 shy of Ramzi Abid's all-time franchise record for points scored in a single season set in 1999-2000. The Dogs tied it before the end of the first period on a Vince Elie tally with just 11 seconds to go before the horn.

Halifax regained the lead and then some thanks to goals only nine seconds apart from Attilio Biasca and Evan Boucher with both players assisting on each others goals. Doucet struck with his QMJHL-best ninth shorthanded goal of the season near the midway mark of the third period to open up a 4-1 advantage that the Mooseheads needed every bit of in order to secure the win.

Saint John made things very interesting down the stretch as Peter Reynolds connected on the power play to cut the deficit in half for the Dogs while Danny Akkouche scored less than 30 seconds later to bring it to 4-3. Halifax hung on as Saint John pulled goalie Ventislav Shingarov with 1:25 remaining but time ran out on the home team and the Moose grabbed yet another win. Shingarov had a strong game with 36 saves but Halifax improved to 8-0 against Saint John to finish the season series.

The Mooseheads will next host Moncton on Sunday afternoon at 2pm before welcoming the Islanders on Wednesday night at 7pm in a makeup date from the Hurricane Fiona postponed home opener, then it's Cape Breton visiting Scotiabank Centre Friday at 7pm and the regular season concludes against Charlottetown on home ice on Saturday at 4pm.
