Montreal Impact Forward Marco Di Vaio Voted MLS Player of the Week

September 9, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, September 9, 2013) - Montreal Impact forward Marco Di Vaio was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 28 of the 2013 MLS season.

Marco Di Vaio regained his position as the Budweiser Golden Boot leader Saturday night, contributing two goals - his 16th and 17th of the season - to lead the Montreal Impact over the New England Revolution 4-2 at Gillette Stadium.

Di Vaio added to the 2-1 Montreal lead in first half stoppage time when he collected a ball over the top from Hassoun Camara and cut inside his defender before unleashing a shot to the near post. The goal would stand as the eventual game-winner.

Di Vaio continued his strong play in the second half, adding another goal in the 55th minute. Receiving another long ball from Camara, he cut back to his right and delivered a clinical strike to the far side of the goal.

The Montreal Impact are back in action Saturday, September 14 when they face the Columbus Crew at Stade Saputo (2:00 p.m. ET).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
