Texas Outlaws News Release

Mesquite, Texas - The Monterrey Flash brushed past the Mesquite Outlaws to win their Dec. 4 matchup at the Mesquite Arena, 2-3. The game attendance was 4,536, with the majority of the crowd made up of more than 3,000 Mesquite ISD sixth-graders and their teachers.

The game started off quickly, with two goals scored in the first 1:15: Outlaws midfielder Jorge DeLeon scored the first goal 8 seconds into the game, followed by a Flash goal from forward Edgar Gonzalez. There were two power plays during the first half, one for each team, but neither resulted in a score. In the second quarter, Flash defender Victor Quiroz scored a goal to bring the score to 1-2, Monterrey.

The second half was a nail-biter as the Outlaws tied the score with a goal by forward Anthony Powell, assisted by forward Jamie Lovegrove. Monterrey answered that goal with a score by midfielder Erick Rosas. With the score 2-3, the Outlaws pulled goalie Eduardo "Pollo" Cortes and brought in a sixth attacker, to no avail.

The Outlaws' defense and goalkeeper Cortes, with 18 saves, kept the Flash from running up the score. Forward Jamie Lovegrove had six shots on goal. For Monterrey, forward Edgar Gonzalez and defender Victor Quiroz each had four shots on goal, and each had one make it in.

The Outlaws' next game is at home vs. the Kansas City Comets on Sat., Dec. 21 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at mesquiteoutlaws.com. The game may also be viewed at MASL.tv.
