CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday at The Q by a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Monsters improved to 4-3-1-0 overall this season and with a .563 points percentage, currently sit alone in third place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

Cleveland grabbed a 1-0 lead at 13:45 of the first period when Alex Broadhurst netted an even-strength goal, courtesy of assists from Joe Pendenza and Jordan Schroeder. In the middle stanza, the Monsters extended their edge to 2-0 when Calvin Thurkauf knifed home a loose puck at even-strength on feeds from Sam Vigneault and Schroeder before Rockford's Carl Dahlstrom cut the Monsters lead in half with an even-strength marker at 11:24. The IceHogs then leveled the score a two apiece with a Tomas Jurco deflection at 19:17 of the middle frame.

In the third, the Monsters skated away 3-2 winners thanks to Paul Bittner's first professional goal, a power-play strike fed by Miles Koules and Vigneault at 8:37, that proved to be the game-winning tally. Monsters goaltender Brad Thiessen improved to 4-1-0 in net this season by virtue of a 30-save performance while IceHogs backstop Jean-Francois Berube fell to 5-2-0 between the pipes despite stopping 19 of the 22 pucks he faced.
