Monsters Hang on to Defeat Bears

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Peter MacArthur scored a power-play goal late in the third period to help propel the Lake Erie Monsters to a 4-3 win over the HERSHEY BEARS on Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
After killing off a two-man advantage awarded to the Monsters, the BEARS got the jump later in the period. Off of a Lake Erie turnover, the BEARS countered three-on-two. Andrew Carroll passed to his left for Julien Brouillette, who set up a drop pass that Ryan Potulny blasted past Cedrick Desjardins low to the stick side at 17:23.
Lake Erie then turned the game around in the second, scoring three times in a span of 10:09. Patrick Rissmiller tied the game at 6:55, putting a wrist shot from the left circle past Dany Sabourin.
Patrick Bordeleau then jumped on the rebound of Joel Chouinard's point shot that Sabourin kicked out, and put it in at 13:30 for a 2-1 Monsters lead. Zach Cohen then jumped on another rebound at 17:04, diving to the right of Sabourin's crease to backhand a chance in off of Danny Richmond's point shot.
Boyd Kane the scored a power-play goal in the third period to pull the BEARS within one. Off of a faceoff win by Potulny, Chris Bourque fired the puck toward the slot. Kane got a stick on the shot and deflected it past Desjardins at 5:16.
Sabourin then made two big saves on a Monsters breakaway chance, the second coming off of a rebound opportunity by Evan Brophey. On the play, Bourque was called for slashing, setting up MacArthur's power-play goal with 2:20 left.
A delayed penalty coming against the Monsters not long afterward led to Cody Eakin working the puck to the left circle for Tomas Kundratek. The defenseman one-timed the puck off of the right goal post, but the puck trickled back toward the goal line and crossed it underneath the reach of Desjardins at 18:35. After consultation with the goal judge, the goal was allowed, and the BEARS trailed 4-3.
After getting Sabourin to the bench for an extra attacker, the BEARS pressured but couldn't find the tying goal.
Sabourin falls to 10-9-3, making 23 saves. Desjardins improves to 9-5-1, with 27 stops in the contest. The BEARS finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The BEARS now return home to host the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday, February 25 with faceoff at 7:00 PM. Only a limited number of individual tickets for this game remain, along with limited standing-room areas.
