Moniak, Lartigue Lead Threshers in Sweep

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Mickey Moniak matched his season highs with three hits and three RBIs in his return to the lineup, and Henri Lartigue also collected three hits as the Clearwater Threshers completed the sweep of the Tampa Tarpons with a 7-4 win on Thursday night at Spectrum Field.

The Threshers (31-34) roll into he All-Star break hot, going 10-5 thus far in the month of June, and having won four-straight for the first time this season.

Moniak finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a double, and two runs scored in his first game since June 6, and Henri Lartigue also tied his season high in hits by going 3-for-4.

Clearwater loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first, after Arquimedes Gamboa was hit by a pitch, and Adam Haseley and Austin Listi connected for back-to-back singles.

With one down, Moniak jumped on the first pitch from Garrett Whitlock (2-1) and pulled a single through the right side to bring home Gamboa and Haseley, putting Clearwater up 2-0.

The Threshers added a run two innings later to go up by three. Listi doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a groundout, before racing down the line to score on a wild pitch.

Following a one-out walk to Edgar Cabral in the fifth, Moniak shot a double to the warning track in left-centerfield to score Cabral and make it 4-0. Lartigue followed with a single up the middle to bring in Moniak and extend the advantage to five.

Nick Fanti held Tampa hitless until the fourth, and scoreless until the sixth, when Ben Ruta singled and Diego Castillo doubled off the right field wall. Fanti induced a pop out to third from Alexander Palma, but Brandon Wagner battled him through a nine-pitch at-bat before homering to right to cut the lead to 5-3.

Fanti (3-2) turned in six innings in the start, holding Tampa to three runs on five hits and a walk while earning his third-straight win.

Clearwater managed to grab some extra breathing room in the seventh. Moniak lined a two-strike pitch to left for his third hit of the night, and Lartigue followed with a single up the middle to put runners at the corners with two down.

Raul Rivas worked a nine-pitch at-bat, then pushed a single through the left side to score both runners and put Clearwater up 7-3.

Felix Paulino tossed the final three innings and held Tampa to just a run on two hits, earning his first save of the season.

Th league will be off for the All-Star break Friday through Sunday, with the FSL Home Run Derby taking place on Friday and the All-Star Game held Saturday at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. Clearwater will wrap up first-half play with a three-game series at Bradenton beginning on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:15 p.m.
