LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Portland (12/20): Right wing Brian O'Neill registered four points (2-2=4) in his first game back from injury as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Portland Pirates and gained a 3-1 advantage in the VIP Cup Series at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Left wing Andy Andreoff, left wing Tanner Pearson, center Nick Shore, and center Jordan Weal joined O'Neill on the scoreboard. Left wing Jordan Martinook and right wing Keven Veilleux scored for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (11-4-2) earned his 11th win of the season stopping 27-of-29 shots. Pirates netminder Mark Visentin (8-9-2) took his ninth loss of the season stopping 10-of-14 shots. Pirates goaltender Louis Domingue (2-0-1) saved 17-of-19 shots in relief of Visentin. Manchester was 2-for-7 on the power play. Portland went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

@ Bridgeport (12/21): Goaltender J.F. Berube stopped 30-of-31 shots in his 17th consecutive game to backstop the Manchester Monarchs to a 2-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Webster Bank Arena on Saturday night. Right wing Brandon Kozun and center Jordan Weal scored for the Monarchs. Defenseman Scooter Vaughan scored the lone goal for the Sound Tigers. Berube (12-4-2) earned his 12th win of the season stopping 30-of-31 shots. Sound Tigers netminder Anders Nilsson (5-8-1) took his eighth loss of the season stopping 25-of-27 shots. Manchester was 0-for-7 on the power play. Bridgeport went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (21-5-1-4) are ranked first in the Atlantic Division with 47 points. The Providence Bruins (14-9-1-5) sit in second place in the division with 34 points. The St. John's IceCaps (15-11-1-2) are in third place in the division with 33 points. The Portland Pirates (11-10-1-4) are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Division with 27 points. The Worcester Sharks (12-11-1-1) are in fifth place in the division with 26 points.

The Monarchs are ranked 27th in the American Hockey League on the power play with 16 goals on 125 attempts. Manchester is ranked seventh in the league on the penalty kill stopping their opponent 120-of-141 times.

Manchester is undefeated in regulation in their last 10 home games (9-0-0-1).

At home, the Monarchs are undefeated in Saturday games with a record of 5-0-0-0. Manchester is also undefeated in regulation on Saturdays with a 11-0-0-1 overall record.

The Monarchs were undefeated on home ice, 6-0-0-0, throughout the month of November, and collected a 9-2-0-1 overall record for the month. Thus far in December, Manchester is 6-2-0-1.

Center Jordan Weal (8-17=25) leads the Monarchs with 17 assists and 25 points.

Weal is tied for 11th place in AHL with 17 assists.

Weal has collected four goals in his last four games.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (7-16=23) ranks second on the Monarchs with 16 assists and 23 points.

Kozun ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs categories:

Goals - 75 - third place

Assists - 97 - tied for fourth place

Points - 173 - third place

Power Play Goals - 24 - third place

Game-Winning Goals - 17 - first place

Shots - 512 - nineth place

Left wing Nick Deslauriers (10-9=19) ranks third on the Monarchs with 19 points.

Deslauriers ranks second on the Monarchs with 10 goals and 53 penalty minutes.

Left wing Tanner Pearson (11-6=17) is fourth on the Monarchs with 17 points.

Pearson recorded his first professional hat trick in the Monarchs 3-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Sunday, December 15.

Pearson has collected five points (4-1=5) in his last four games.

Pearson recorded one point, a goal, in six games with the Kings from November 13 to December 3.

Right wing Scott Sabourin (8-7=15) and defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (5-10=15) are tied for fith place on the Monarchs with 15 points each.

Sabourin is tied with Weal for third place on the team with eight goals each.

Bodnarchuk leads the Monarchs and the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-22.

Left wing Andy Andreoff (5-8=13) and right wing Linden Vey (3-10=13) are tied for seventh place on the Monarchs with 13 points each.

Andreoff leads the team with 66 penalty minutes.

Vey has recorded two assists in two games since his return from Los Angeles.

Vey collected five assists in 14 games with the Kings from November 1 and December 19, 2013.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (7-5=12) is ranked ninth on the Monarchs roster with 12 points.

Toffoli has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 23 games with the Los Angeles Kings. He was recalled on November 1, 2013.

Toffoli is tied with Kozun for fifth place on the Monarchs with seven goals each.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (7-4=11) returned to the ice on Friday, December 20 following an upper body injury. In his first game back, O'Neill collected four points (2-2=4), including the game-winning goal, against the Pirates. O'Neill leads the Monarchs and is tied for third place in the AHL with three game-winning goals.

O'Neill is tied wtih center Nick Shore (4-7=11) for 10th place on the Monarchs with 11 points each.

Shore recorded six points (1-5=6) during a four-game assist and point streak from December 13-20, 2013.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (0-10=10) ranks second on the Monarchs and is tied for second place in the AHL with a plus-18 rating.

Goaltender Martin Jones was recalled by the Kings on November 13, 2013.

Jones made his National Hockey League debut with the Kings against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, December 3. He backstopped the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory, including going 9-for-9 in the shootout.

Jones picked up his first NHL shutout by stopping all 16 shots he faced in the Kings 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday, December 7.

The rookie netminder then stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Monarchs 6-0 shutout of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, December 10.

In eight games with the Kings, Jones has an undefeated record of 8-0-0, a .966 save percentage, a 0.98 goals-against-average, and three shutouts.

Jones' eight wins tie the NHL record for consecutive winning games to start an NHL career with netminder Bob Froese who won his first eight games with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1982-83 season.

Jones is the first goaltender in NHL history to allow an average of less than one goal per game while winning the first eight appearances of his career.

Jones is the third goaltender in NHL history to record three shutouts in his first six starts. Goaltender Flat Walsh accomplished the feat with the New York Americans during the 1928-29 season and netminder Frank Brimsek did it with the Boston Bruins during the 1938-39 season.

Jones had a record of 9-2-2 with a 2.24 goals-against-average, a .927 save percentage and one shutout when he was recalled on Wednesday, November 13.

Jones ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs goaltending categories:

Games played - 149 - first place

Wins - 77 - first place

Losses - 56 - first place

Ties/Shootout Losses - 9 - tied for second place

Goals-against-average - 2.45 - eighth place

Save percentage - .921 - tied for seventh place

Shutouts - 11 - third place

Saves - 4,040 - first place

Goaltender Jean-Francios Berube is 12-3-2 in his last 17 starts, all consecutive games since Jones' recall to the Kings.

Berube has collected a 12-4-2 record with a 2.30 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage.

Berube has appeared in the last 17 consecutive games. The Monarchs franchise record for consecutive appearances by a goaltender is 19 games. The record is held by netminders Travis Scott from February 19 - March 22, 2003, and Jason LaBarbera from Novmeber 19 - December 29, 2006.
