Monarchs Sign O'Brien, Gravel, Arseneau

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, have signed right wing Zach O'Brien, left wing Vincent Arseneau, and defenseman Kevin Gravel to American Hockey League contracts, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced on Monday.

O'Brien, 22, recorded 29 points (10-1929), four penalty minutes, and a plus-9 rating in 49 games with the Monarchs during the 2013-14 season. He also scored two goals for the Monarchs in four games during the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs. Prior to signing on November 15, 2013, the 5-foot-10, 188-pound native of St. John's, Newfoundland, had collected four points (2-24) in five games with the ECHL's Ontario Reign. O'Brien led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Acadie-Bathurst Titans with 47 goals, 45 assists, and 92 points in 66 games during the 2012-13 season.

Gravel, 22, made his AHL debut with the Monarchs on April 4, 2014 when Manchester hosted the Hartford Wolf Pack. The rookie defenseman was held scoreless in five games with the Monarchs. Prior to joining Manchester last April, Gravel completed his senior season at St. Cloud State, collecting 23 points (10-1323) and two penalty minutes in 38 games. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound native of Kingsford, Michigan, recorded 49 points (13-3649) and 43 penalty minutes in 153 games at St. Cloud State from 2010-14. Gravel was selected by the Kings in the fifth round (148th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Arseneau, 22, split the 2013-14 season between the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and the Central Hockey League's Denver Cutthroats. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, registered 37 points (24-1337) and 120 penalty minutes in 47 games with the Cutthroats. Arseneau was held scoreless and picked up 60 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Monsters last season. The left wing collected an assist in 11 games with Lake Erie during the 2012-13 season. Prior to turning pro, Arseneau recorded 42 points (20-2242) and 210 penalty minutes in 107 games with the QMJHL's Shawinigan Cataractes from 2011-13. He also collected 66 points (32-3466) and 422 penalty minutes in 187 games with Acadie-Bathurst from 2008-11.
