WHERE WE STAND The Monarchs (44 pts.) enter tonight's matchup alone atop the Eastern Conference, one point ahead this evening's opponent, the Florida Everblades. With the Brampton Beast idle last night, the Monarchs stretched their lead in the North Division to three points.
FIRST FOR GRABS
The top two teams in the Eastern Conference will battle at Germain Arena tonight, with the winner guaranteed at least a tie for the most points in the conference. The Monarchs (21) have earned the most wins in the East so far, but Florida (20) is right on their heels. With their win last night, the Monarchs remain 9-1-0-0 in their last 10 games, while Florida has "struggled" a bit, going 6-4-0-0 in their last 10. The teams split their two meetings earlier this season in Manchester, with the Monarchs holding an 8-7 scoring advantage.
TAKE IT ON THE ROAD
The Everblades have been stingy inside Germain Arena this season, and are tied for the fewest home regulation losses across the ECHL, having dropped only two games to this point in the season. Something will have to give tonight, as the Monarchs enter tied for the fewest regulation road losses in the league, surrendering all of the points in only three games.
SNIPE CITY
Gasper Kopitar has been on a tear in his five games since returning from injury Dec. 17, as the forward has scored four points on three goals and one assist. What is even more impressive is Kopitar has shot to the top of the league in shooting percentage, and is now converting on 33.3% (5-of-15) of his shots on goal.
THIS BOY IS ON FIRE
Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman has almost done nothing but score goals since he joined the Monarchs on Nov. 19. In his first 13 games with the club, LaVallee-Smotherman has scored goals in 10 games while adding four assists. LaVallee-Smotherman is riding an eight-game point streak, the longest for the Monarchs this season, in which he has potted seven goals and added three assists.
SECOND PERIOD BARRAGE
If goals are scored in tonight's contest, expect them to come in the second period. The Monarchs enter tonight with the most goals scored in the second period across the league with 53, while the Everblades check-in with 4th most goals in the middle frame, having scored 41.
TWOS ARE WILD
When a game is decided by two goals, the Monarchs have been a .500 team, playing to a 6-6-0-0 record in that situation. If the game is decided by anything other than two goals, the Monarchs are 15-1-1-1, including an 8-1-1-1 record in one-goal games (5-1-1-1 on the road).
