Manchester Monarchs News Release
BEDFORD, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the top affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, in partnership with D.A.R.E New Hampshire and the Bedford Police Department, on Friday graduated 350 fifth graders in the gymnasium at Riddle Brook School in Bedford, New Hampshire. The graduates attend Memorial School, Peter Woodbury School and Riddle Brook School. Jeff Eisenberg, President of the Monarchs, briefly addressed the crowd before introducing the Monarchs D.A.R.E. Graduation Video. The video, released in May, includes members of the 2003-04 Monarchs and a drug-free message for area youth. The 12-minute production features several players talking to kids about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and violence.
Officer Bill Donahue and Officer Matthew Flemming officiated the ceremony and awarded 14 graduates with special honors for writing superb essays about being drug free. The grand prize winner was Christine O'Brien from Peter Woodbury School.
D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a nine-week program that helps fifth grade students resist the pressure to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants and other drugs. Through the program, students are introduced to decision-making models that will assist them in problem solving and help them make wise decisions. To graduate from the program, students must complete a D.A.R.E. handbook, have good attendance, demonstrate good behavior, keep their bodies free of drugs, write a report and pledge to make wise decisions.
