MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Sam Brittain has been recalled from loan by the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL), and Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman has left the team to pursue an opportunity with MODO Hockey of the Allsvenskan in Sweden.

The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings and the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign.

Brittain, 24, heads to Springfield for the second time this season after posting a 17-4-1-0 record, a 2.77 GAA and a .907 save percentage for the Monarchs.

The 6-foot-3, 227-pound native of Calgary, Alberta was selected in the 4th round (#92 overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers before playing four seasons at the University of Denver. While on campus, Brittain posted a 51-34-11 record, was nominated for the Mike Richter Award (Top Goaltender) and was named to the AHCA/CCM All-America First Team (West) in his senior season.

In his professional career, Brittain has logged 1687 minutes in 32 AHL games between the Portland Pirates and San Antonio Rampage, and posted a 12-12-4-1 record, a 2.56 GAA and a .914 save percentage. In 51 ECHL games, Brittain played 2955 minutes and earned a 31-16-1-1 record, a 2.74 GAA and a .901 save percentage.

LaVallee-Smotherman, 30, leaves the Monarchs for MODO after playing 18 games for the Monarchs since signing a contract Nov. 14, 2016. With the Monarchs, LaVallee-Smotherman scored 20 points on 12 goals and eight assists, including two, four-game goal scoring streaks. LaVallee-Smotherman took a brief hiatus from the Monarchs when he was loaned to the Thunderbirds where he played five games without recording a point.

The Monarchs are back in action Friday, Jan. 20 (7 p.m.) when they begin a three-game series with North Division rival, the Elmira Jackals, at SNHU Arena.

The Monarchs will host LA Kings Night on Saturday, Jan. 21 (6 p.m.), when the Elmira Jackals come to town. Tickets for the game are still available and the first 4,000 fans in SNHU Arena will receive a complimentary Tyler Toffoli bobblehead giveaway!
